Spearcrest Rose by Aurora Reed
Tropes:
- rich girl x poor boy
- opposites attract
- boarding school/college
My Review:
☆☆☆☆ stars
I am a huge sucker for the rich girl x poor boy trope, so much so that I will eat it up without hesitation every time.
In this novella, we meet Seraphina, whom we had a brief introduction to in book 1 in the Spearcrest series (Spearcrest Knight). Seraphina is known to be the "rose" of Spearcrest, always hanging out with the popular students and being a part of the rich crowd. Originally, Seraphina wanted to be with Evan to make the "dream couple" and to make her father proud, however with her dad refusing to pay and support Seraphina's way to fashion school and with Evan already lusting for Sophie Sutton, Seraphina had to resort to other measures.
In comes Noah, the "school gardener" Seraphina meets one night as she snuck into the school's greenhouse to find some roses for an outfit she was putting together. Noah is the complete opposite of Seraphina. Noah is two years older, does not attend Spearcrest or any other university for that matter, and most of all - he's what can be considered "poor" in Seraphina's books.
One thing led to another and many different things went down in this story. So much so that it was quite shocking that so many different events took place in such a small novella, yet not to the point that any of these events felt overbearing in any way. I enjoyed this novella for what it was worth, however, I don't find this book to redeem any of Seraphina's actions much. I wish there were more POVs from Noah rather than it all simply being told in Seraphina's POV cause I found her pretty selfish and annoying but it is what it is.
The smut was so hot and lowkey, unlike anything I have read before in the sense that the girl had so much more dominance over the guy which I don't see in any books I read. I loved how open Noah was and I do wish we got more insight into his life than we did but I guess it makes sense since this is a novella and not a full-length novel. These two definitely deserve a longer book in my opinion.
Book Synopsis:
Once upon a time, I had it all.
The looks, the money, the promise of an illustrious fashion career, and the dream of a future with the most popular guy at Spearcrest Academy.
Until my father decided that he should be in charge of my life, not me.
He took away my trust fund and my dreams of fashion school, and to make it all worse, the boy I thought I would end up with rejected me in favour of the poorest girl at school.
This sort of thing might have broken a lesser woman, but I'm Seraphina Rosenthal.
I’m going to come out on top even if it means I have to go low to do it.
Even if going low means using Noah Watson—part-time gardener, part-time boxer, and full-time poor—to get back at my father.
I only have one rule: don’t fall in love with Noah.
But this might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done because Noah isn't like any man I've been with before.
He's hard-working, honest, affectionate—and he calls me all sorts of sweet and dirty things in bed…
And I think I might have a thing for being praised.
